How to Clean UGG Boots & Slippers

For suede and sheepskin UGGs, start with a brush, use a compatible cleaner only when needed, and allow a full day for natural drying. A washing machine is not the shortcut. Check the upper first: the routine for a Classic Mini is not a universal method for every leather, knit or embellished UGG.

Match the care to your pair

Clean suede UGG boots and slippers at home

1. Brush away loose, dry dirt with a suede brush.
2. Lightly dampen the outside with a clean sponge.
3. Put a small amount of UGG Cleaner & Conditioner on the damp sponge. Gently clean the surface, then remove the residue with the sponge.
4. Use paper towels inside to hold the shape. Leave the pair in a cool, ventilated place for 24 hours, away from direct heat and sunlight.
5. When fully dry, lightly brush the suede in one direction.

This is an exterior-cleaning routine. Keep the amount of moisture controlled rather than soaking the whole shoe. Read the label on your cleaner before starting, especially with an unfamiliar finish.

Water stains, salt marks and soaked UGGs

Let a wet pair dry naturally before deciding what needs cleaning. Blot excess moisture with a clean towel and support the shape with paper towels. A water mark is not proof that the boot is ruined, but neither can a cleaning guide promise to reverse every stain or change in texture.

For dry marks, start with the brush; use the compatible cleaner if residue remains. We recommend that route for water and salt marks too, rather than an improvised vinegar mixture. If a mark persists, ask a suede-cleaning specialist before using stronger products or repeatedly scrubbing the same spot.

Can you clean UGGs without the kit?

You may only need a suede brush for loose dirt. When the pair needs a wet clean, choose a product intended for its material instead of substituting dish soap, laundry detergent or a homemade mix. You do not need to buy a complete kit if you already have the right brush, sponge and cleaner.

For the inside, air the pair between wears. UGG recommends Shoe Renew for freshening the lining. Follow its directions and let the inside dry before wearing. Cleaning can improve a worn pair's appearance; it does not replace missing lining or repair a damaged sole.

Protect the clean, dry pair

UGG's Protector instructions specify an even application from six inches away in a ventilated area, followed by 24 hours of natural drying. Follow the label for your pair and product. Protector helps with surface repellency; it does not turn a Classic boot into a waterproof winter boot.
