Birkenstock Boston Sizing Guide
The Birkenstock Boston clog is a favorite — but Birkenstock sizing trips a lot of people up. Here's how to get it right, from an authorized Birkenstock retailer at a family-run store open since 2003. (The Boston turns 50 in 2026.)
How is Birkenstock sizing measured?
Birkenstock uses European (EU) sizing. Most listings show a US equivalent, but when in doubt go by the EU number and a EU/US conversion. Unsure? Call us and we'll convert it for you.
Does the Boston clog run big or small?
The Boston runs roomy. If you're between sizes, or have a slim foot, size down to the next EU size or choose the Narrow width.
Regular vs Narrow width — which should I pick?
The standard (Regular) width suits medium-to-wide feet. The Narrow width is for slimmer feet — your foot should sit centered on the footbed without spilling over the edges.
How should the Boston fit on the footbed?
Your heel sits in the molded heel cup, with toes about a finger-width from the front edge — not hanging over. The contoured cork-and-latex footbed feels firm at first and molds to your arch over a week or two.
How do I know my Birkenstocks are real?
Counterfeit Birkenstocks are everywhere online, so the simplest protection is to buy from an authorized retailer — Feet Heart is one, and has been family-run since 2003. On a genuine Boston, look for the embossed Birkenstock logo on the sole, a solid metal pin in the buckle, the real cork-and-latex (not flat foam) footbed, and clean, even stitching. If something looks off, it usually is.
Boston vs Arizona — which should I get?
The Boston is a closed-toe clog you can wear nearly year-round (it's great with socks in cooler months); the Arizona is an open two-strap sandal for warmer weather. Both use the same contoured footbed, so the sizing advice carries over — see our Birkenstock Arizona sizing guide.
