Are UGGs Waterproof? Wearing UGGs in Rain & Snow

Rain, snow or a dry day?

Choose by construction, not the UGG name alone

A cold-weather rating is not a waterproof rating. UGG lists both waterproof features and a separate cold-weather rating for Truckee. Neither is a promise of slip-free walking on ice.

Water-repellent is not the same as waterproof

A surface treatment helps resist moisture on the material. Waterproof footwear also needs the construction specified for that purpose. UGG lists waterproof leather and sealed seams on the Truckee Field Boot; those features should not be assumed for a suede Classic or Neumel.

A sole described as outdoor does not make the upper waterproof. Look for the exact waterproof features on the model you are buying.

The pictured Truckee is Black and has a very limited size selection. The Chestnut Short II also has limited sizes, with other colors on its product page. Select your color and size together; the presence of a product page does not mean every size can be ordered.

Choose the boot for your day

Dry errands and casual outfits: the Classic Mini II and Classic Short II give you two shaft heights to compare. Choose the height and color you like, then find your size.

Wet-weather trips: start with a model explicitly described as waterproof. If the Truckee is unavailable in your size, look through our Timberland collection for a boot whose exact product description specifies waterproof construction. Not every Timberland is waterproof either.

What about suede protector?

Use a protector suitable for the material and follow its instructions, including drying time. It does not turn a standard suede boot into a sealed waterproof boot. UGG's care instructions are the starting point for its products.

UGG's Protector directions call for clean, dry suede or sheepskin, a ventilated area and even spraying from about six inches away without soaking. Allow 24 hours of natural drying away from heat and sun, then lightly brush the dry suede in one direction. This is the drying instruction after applying that product, not a guarantee for a rain-soaked boot.

What to do if your UGGs get wet

Let them dry naturally in a cool, airy place, away from direct heat and sunlight. Paper inside helps hold the shape. Once dry, brush suede gently. Follow the material-specific care instructions for any remaining marks; machine-washing and dry-cleaning can damage UGG footwear.

Keep the dry-day pair in the decision
