Kids' Shoe Size Chart: Toddler, Youth & Infant Conversions

Measure both feet, identify the toddler or youth range, then use the size chart for the exact brand. There is no universal kids' US-to-EU conversion. The UGG charts below show why the brand and the letters beside a size matter; they are not a chart for Dr. Martens, Timberland or every children's shoe.

Read the range before the number

UGG's whole-size sequence moves from 12T to 13K and then 1K. Its larger children's range continues through 6K. A toddler 6T is much smaller than a youth 6. Other brands may include half sizes, so do not assume every label follows this exact sequence.

Measure before choosing a size

1. Have your child stand on a flat surface with the heel against a wall.
2. Mark the longest toe and measure heel to toe on both feet.
3. Use the longer measurement with the brand chart for that model.
4. Try both shoes with the socks they will wear, checking toe room, width, instep pressure and heel hold while walking.

Do not add an arbitrary centimetre to the measured length before reading the chart. Follow the brand's instructions for fit allowance. A larger shoe still needs to hold the foot comfortably today.

Check fit as feet grow

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends monthly shoe-fit checks for active toddlers. Recheck sooner if shoes press, leave marks or change your child's walk. Age bands are browsing categories, not a size prescription, and a chart cannot tell whether a particular upper is too narrow.

Why do kids' shoe sizes restart at 1?

Children's US sizing has a smaller-child range and a larger youth range. In UGG's current whole-size chart, 13K comes before 1K. Other brands may include half sizes. Check the range and brand as well as the number; a toddler 6T is not a youth 6.

Are kids' US-to-EU size conversions the same for every brand?

No. The charts on this page are UGG examples, not a universal conversion table. Use the chart for the brand and model you are buying. Read any paired UK and US label already shown on the product without converting it again.

Can I choose a shoe size from my child's age?

Age is not a reliable size measurement. Measure both feet and use the longer measurement with the exact brand chart, then check toe room, width and heel hold in the shoes.

How much growing room should I leave?

Follow the brand's fit guidance for the exact shoe. A growing child still needs a controlled, comfortable step today. Do not add an arbitrary size or extra centimetre to a chart that already accounts for fit, or buy a loose pair simply to last longer.

How often should I check my child's shoes?

Check whenever shoes feel tight, leave marks or change how your child walks, and before buying the next pair. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends monthly fit checks for active toddlers; that is not a fixed replacement schedule for every child.

Is a youth size a cheaper substitute for a women's size?

Do not choose by a fixed subtraction or price alone. Children's and adult shoes have separate charts and may differ in shape and construction. Confirm the exact model and fit before switching ranges.
